Is it safe to ride in groups again?

Current Recommendations for Cycling during Coronavirus

We're all doing our best these days to make decisions that are wise for our health and the health of others. As many things start to open up more, many are asking whether it is safe to return to group riding. With the holiday weekend approaching, you may be thinking of heading out with others on a ride. has shared helpful recommendations as to the safety of group rides by consulting with physicians and experts.

Stick to small groups

The general consensus is that large group rides are still not wise, but riding in small groups of two to three should be fine as long as certain precautions are taken. These precautions include riding at a distance from one another in a non-crowded area, and perhaps using face coverings. The questions to ask before riding with others include:

  • Are there any restrictions on activities or gatherings in my area?
  • Are coronavirus cases in my community increasing or decreasing?
  • Is community spread low?
  • Am I feeling sick?
  • Will those who I’m riding with stay home if they’re feeling sick?
  • Are we riding in an area where we can spread out?
  • Are we riding in an area where we won’t come in contact with others?
  • Have I or my training partners been in close proximity with others for an extended period of time, such as at a bar or restaurant, an office, or club?
  • Do I live with anyone who is immunocompromised?
