Baby it's cold outside!

Cold Weather Gear for Winter Cycling

We know. It's cold. But that doesn't mean your riding needs to stop! Come on in to Takoma Bicycle to find all the gear you need to stay warm, even on the coldest of days. Just because we're all dreaming of spring doesn't mean you have to wait until spring to get back on your bike.

What are the key layers for riding out in the cold?

A Hat: Modern helmets have helpful holes for venting in the summer that aren't that great in the winter. Grab a skullcap meant to fit under your helmet.

A Neck Gaiter: keep your neck and face protected during winter descents.

Booties/Shoe Covers: Make sure your feet stay warm and dry by covering up your shoes in the winter muck.

Winter tights: keep those legs toasty warm on long rides.

Winter cycling gloves: make sure you invest in a good pair of winter cycling specific gloves that will give you the handling you need as well as the warmth.

Fenders: technically not a winter layer, but absolutely vital to keeping the snow and slush off of you.

Base layer: incredibly important for keeping your core warm. Make sure it's moisture wicking, though.

Jacket: the thickness of this jacket may depend some on the layers you have underneath, but make sure to invest in a jacket proven to block out the icy winter winds.

Are there not enough layers out there to persuade you to take your bike outside? Grab a trainer and get ready for spring inside!
